Welcome Address The Rt. Hon Lord Diljit Rana MBE | Baron of Malone, Honorary Consul of India, Northern Ireland

Diljit Singh Rana, Baron Rana, MBE is a British politician and member of the House of Lords. In June 2004, he was created a life peer as Baron Rana, of Malone in the County of Antrim. He was awarded an MBE in 1996,for his contribution to the economic regeneration of the city of Belfast. He has also set up a charitable trust of Rs.50 million for a school and a college named Sanghol Education Complex, in Sanghol, India. The Ulster and Queens University, Belfast conferred upon him honorary doctorates. He was instrumental in leading a delegation of academics from the universities to India to explore educational partnerships and help develop university links between India and Northern Ireland. He is a leading figure in the Indian community in Northern Ireland. He is also the Honorary Consul of India to Northern Ireland.

Opening Remarks Lt Gen J. S. Ahluwalia, PVSM (Retd) | President, Institute Of Directors, India

Lt Gen J. S. Ahluwalia, PVSM (retd) is President of the 'Institute of Directors' and of the 'World Environment Foundation' (WEF). A Post Graduate in Electronics Engineering and MBA, he had specialized in engineering support to weapon systems of the Army. He has undergone extensive training in various manufacturing concerns in France, UK, USSR and Japan. He is an alumnus of the National Defence College and College of Defence Management. He is also a Chartered Engineer and Fellow Member of a large number of foreign and Indian professional engineering and management institutions. He was chairman of the 'Institution of Engineers (INDIA)', President of 'Delhi Management Association'. He has also been on the Board of Governors of 'Engineering staff College of India', 'Quality Council of India' (QCI), 'All India Management' (AIMA).

Special Address Lord Karan Bilimoria | CBE, DL , Founder, Cobra Beer & Chairman Cobra Beer Partnership Ltd, UK

Lord Karan Bilimoria is the founder of Cobra Beer. He is the Founding Chairman of the UK India Business Council, a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London, a former Chancellor of Thames Valley University (now the University of West London); he was the youngest University Chancellor in the UK when appointed. In 2014, he was appointed as the 7th Chancellor of the University of Birmingham. He is Senior Non-Executive Director of the Booker Group PLC. In 2006, he was appointed the Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea, making him the first ever Zoroastrian Parsi to sit in the House of Lords. In 2008 he was awarded the Pravasi Bhartiya Samman by the President of India. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young and graduated in law from the University of Cambridge. He is also an alumnus of the Cranfield School of Management, the London Business School and the Harvard Business School.

Atul Chauhan | Chancellor, Amity University, India

Mr. Chauhan has emerged as a leading Educationist. He is the President of the non-profit Ritnand Balved Education Foundation and the Chancellor of Amity University. He is also the CEO of the AKC Group of Companies which now has worldwide interests in the fields of Petrochemicals, Healthcare and Technology.

Amity is one of the leading private education groups of India with over 100,000 students all in high tech campuses with 5 million sq.ft. built up area, over 3,500 faculty, and 8 world class global campuses. Amity University is ranked as a leading private university in India and has 'A' grade accreditation by NAAC. His various institutions like Amity Business School, Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity School of Engineering and Amity Law School are consistently ranked amongst the top ten in India. Dr. Anoop K. Mittal | CMD, National Buildings Constructions Corporation Ltd.

Dr. Anoop Kumar Mittal joined NBCC on March 1, 1985 and subsequently succeeded as the Chairman-cum- Managing Director (CMD) on April 1, 2013. Before taking over the charge of Chairman-cum-Managing Director, he was Director (Projects) since December 5, 2011. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, now a Deemed University. He has been conferred "Doctor of Philosophy"(HonorisCausa) by the Chancellor, Singhania University, Rajasthan, by virtue of his attaining eminence in the field of Civil & Construction Engineering. Doctorate was bestowed upon him in the Annual Convocation held in November 2013. His knowledge and expertise in the field is manifested by many landmark projects he has undertaken and successfully executed. As CMD, he oversees policy and strategic decision making of NBCC

Namita Vikas | Sr. President and Country Head-Responsible Banking, YES Bank Ltd

Ms. Namita Vikas spearheads YES BANK's Version 2.0 Vision & Strategy of further strengthening the bank as a commercially viable financial institution with sustainability principles incorporated within its core operations as the head of Responsible Banking. She serves as a Board Member of “YES FOUNDATION". She is elected to United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Global Steering Committee and is the Vice Chair of the UN Natural Capital Declaration (NCD). She has been serving as a member of UNGC, TERI-BCSD, Environment, Innovation, CSR& Sustainability Committees of Industry bodies. With a well-rounded experience of 24 years in Sustainable Development, Corporate Social Responsibility and policy advocacy, she has successfully held leadership positions with Marico, Microsoft Corporation and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Karl Rotthier | President, DSM Sinochem Pharmaceuticals, Singapore

Mr. Karl Rotthier holds a Master of Laws from the University of Antwerp (Belgium) and the University of Southampton (UK), and an MBA from Vlerick Business School (Belgium). Before joining DSM, he was a lawyer in Belgium and worked for BASF, leading, amongst others, the Performance Chemicals business unit.In 2005 he joined DSM. Shortly afterwards, he was appointed Business Unit Director Europe/Americas at DSM Anti- Infectives, the predecessor of DSM Sinochem Pharmaceuticals in Delft (Netherlands). Shortly after the formation of DSP,he was appointed Chief Operating Officer based in Singapore.On 1 July, 2014 Karl was appointed President/CEO of DSP, fully responsible for all the group's activities and results.

Andrew is the President of ICAEW; he chairs its Board and he is a member of its Council. He was formerly an audit engagement partner with PwC, spending his career leading a variety of large international audit engagements in a range of industries .He also worked on management buy-outs, IPOs and other transactions, risk assessment and control effectiveness, investigations for regulators and expert witness work. In the late 1990s, he was a member of the PwC UK firm's Board and was subsequently elected to PwC's Global Board, which oversees the PwC international network. He was the Chairman of that Board from 2001 to 2005. Andrew is the chairman of the Audit Committee of the Royal College of Music and the Honorary Treasurer of The National Gardens Scheme. He graduated from Cambridge University in 1976 having read mathematics

Rick Payne | Technical Manager, Finance and Management Faculty, ICAEW

Rick is ICAEW's expert on building effective finance functions and the role of the Chief Financial Officer. He qualified with KPMG and having worked as a divisional CFO in the financial services industry he now draws on his experience to lead ICAEW's Finance Direction programme. The programme aims to help finance professionals contribute to organisational success. Rick authored ICAEW's report 'Finance business partnering: a guide' which pulls together views from members and research by academics and consultants. Rick is a qualified trainer and executive coach and has an MSc (with distinction) in Organisational Behaviour from Birkbeck College, University of London. He presents regularly to audiences of finance professionals and academics in the UK and internationally.

Jon Stanton | Finance Director, Weir Group

Jon Stanton joined the Weir Group as finance director in April 2010. He was formerly a partner with Ernst & Young, having joined as a graduate trainee in its Birmingham office in 1988. He was appointed as a partner in its London office in 2001 with lead responsibility for the audit of a number of FTSE 100 multinational clients. He is a chartered accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.


Andrew Clark | Finance Director, Costa Express (Whitbread Group plc)

Andrew is Finance Director for Costa Coffee's vending machine business and has worked for Whitbread for the last nine years. During his time in Whitbread he has held a number of senior Group and Divisional roles including Head of Treasury, Costa Financial Controller and Costa International FD. He started his career at KPMG where he spent six years advising companies and banks through restructuring and turnaround programmes. He is a member of both the ICAEW and Association of Corporate Treasurers.

Dr. Tayeb Kamali | Ex. Vice Chancellor, Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), UAE

Dr. Tayeb Kamali is a leader in organizational change, and has spearheaded education, training, research and applied technology programmes in the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East for more than two decades.In 1989, following doctoral studies in engineering at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., he returned to the UAE where he took up senior leadership positions with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) — the UAE's largest institution of higher learning with 17 campuses. Five years later, he founded the Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT), HCT's entrepreneurial and commercial arm. In 2005, he was appointed HCT Vice Chancellor.

S. Chakraborty | Chief Executive, Innovative Financial Advisors, India

Motivated by the need to bring about constructive and meaningful social change, he created a niche in the CSR and Sustainability industry and established Fiinovation in 2008. He has strategized and implemented various programmes across India in partnership with various corporations and NGOs working in the field of health, environment, education and livelihood. Backed by a rich experience in the social sector, he serves on the board of several organizations as an advisor for CSR and sustainable development. He is also a visiting faculty to some premier institutions. Apart from his contribution in numerous publications, he has also participated at various events as a panelist, speaker, jury and moderator and has won many accolades for his innovative ideas and his dynamic leadership at Fiinovation. Mr. Ravi Parthasarathy is the Chairman of Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd. (IL&FS) and has been at the helm of affairs since the organization commenced operations in 1989. He has the responsibility for all operations of Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd since the commencement of its operations in 1988. th Prior to joining IL&FS, he was Executive Director, 20 Century Finance Corporation, Bombay, which grew to be the largest private sector company in the financial services sector. An IIM-Ahmedabad graduate, he has a rich and varied experience of over three decades in infrastructure, banking and financial sector. He is on the board of several companies. In addition, he has been co-opted on various committees of the government and trade associations in relation to development of new structures in the financial sector, infrastructure and overall economic development

Inaugural Address His Excellency Ranjan Mathai, IFS | High Commissioner of India to UK

Mr. Ranjan Mathai joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1974. During his nearly 40-year long diplomatic career, he has held positions in the Indian Missions in Vienna, Colombo, Washington, Tehran and Brussels. He served as the Deputy High Commissioner of India in London during 2005-2007. Mr Mathai has served as the Ambassador of India in Israel, Qatar and France. In the Ministry of External Affairs of India, he has held several key positions, including as Head (Joint Secretary) of the Division responsible for India's relations with Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives. He was Foreign Secretary of India (August 2011 – July 2013) before taking up his assignment as the High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom.

Guest of Honour Hon Sadiq Khan MP | Member of Parliament for Tooting, UK

Hon Sadiq Khan was elected Labour MP for Tooting in London in 2005 and re-elected in 2010. He is the Shadow Lord Chancellor and Shadow Secretary of State for Justice (with responsibility for political and constitutional reform). In addition, in January 2013 he was also appointed as Shadow Minister for London. Sadiq Khan MP has been a trade union member for over twenty years. He has regularly supported GMB campaigns, most recently including those around the public sector pay and support for teaching assistants. Sadiq has also supported a recent GMB campaign to get recognition in G4S at St Georges hospital in his constituency. His involvement no doubt contributed to GMB now finalising a recognition agreement.

Speakers Lord Meghnad Desai | World Renowned Economist and Professor Emeritus at London School Economics

Lord Meghnad Desai is a famous development economist and an active Labour politician, who is associated with number of prestigious originations. Born and educated in India, the talent of Desai remained noticeable even from his childhood. After receiving his PhD at young age, he worked in number of institutes and organizations. He is one of the best economist and writer of this world. During his early years of carrier he has taught number of subjects in London School of Economics (LSE). Meghnad Jagdish Chandra Desai is also an outstanding speaker in the British House of Lord. Recently he served as the director of the Center for the Study of Global Governance and also works as a professor at the London School of Economics.

Fianna Jurdant | Senior Policy Analysts, OECD Directorate for Financial and Enterprise Affairs, France

Ms. Fianna Jurdant is a Senior Policy Analyst at the OECD. She advocates better corporate governance standards and practices globally, benchmarking the G20 / OECD Principles of Corporate Governance. For over 17 years, she has analyzed and compared corporate governance frameworks and practices around the world, in diverse countries such as Russia, Indonesia, India and China. Fianna also develops policy recommendations and advice to support corporate governance reforms of listed companies in Asia. In addition, she prepared a report and recommendations adopted by OECD Ministers on balanced boards and continue to monitor progress. Prior to the OECD, Jurdant was a trade specialist at the US Embassy in Paris. She is citizen of the US and France, holds a Masters degree from Boston University. She holds a 'Rising Star of Corporate Governance award' from Yale University.

Seamus Smith | CEO, SagePay Europe Ltd

Seamus Smith was appointed as CEO of SagePay Europe Ltd, the payments business of Sage plc in July 2015. Sage is a FTSE 100 business and specialises in providing leading accountancy & payroll software and e-commerce and face to face payments solutions to small & medium businesses. He joined Sage from PayPoint plc, where for the past 4 years he had been Managing Director, driving significant growth in multi-channel payments & services. Previous to PayPoint, he spent 7 years at American Express, latterly as EMEA head of the bank partnership card issuing and merchant acquiring division. Prior to this he spent 6 years at GE Capital in the consumer cards & lending business. His early career was spent at insurance and financial services division of the Automobile Association. Recently, Seamus has also served on the strategic advisory board of the UK Payment Systems Regulator, assisting the Regulator in forming new objectives and priorities for the development of UK payment systems. He holds a MBA from Henley Management College, and is currently a Trustee of Windsor Leadership, a leadership development organisation.

Philip Bouverat | Director, External Affairs, J.C. Bamford Excavators (JCB), UK

Mr. Philip Bouverat is a multi-disciplined executive with a broad range of international market entry experience including mergers, acquisitions and listings. Having travelled extensively on a global basis he has dealt with numerous hands-on international trade and finance scenarios, specializing in infrastructure solutions.He joined JCB in 2002 to bring the Chinese market into JCB's global strategy. Currently based in London covering international diplomatic liaison, with particular emphasis on India and Global account relations. Helen Brand is chief executive of ACCA, the global body for professional accountants, a post she has held since 2008. Helen has built her career within professional bodies and has considerable experience and knowledge of the180 markets in which ACCA currently operates. She has worked closely with IFAC (the International Federation of Accountants) in an advisory capacity over many years, is a London Honorary Advisory Board member of the Women's Executive Network (WXN) and a founding member of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC). Helen was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in June 2011 for services to accountancy.

Prof. Colin Coulson-Thomas of the University of Greenwich and Director-General, IOD India, UK and Europe Operations, holds board, public and academic appointments, and leads the International Governance Initiative of the Order of St Lazarus. He is a member of the General Osteopathic Council, chair of the council's Education and Registration Standards Committee and chair of the Audit and Risk Committee of United Learning. Chris Newby | Executive Director, EMEA General Counsel, AIG

Chris Newby joined AIG Europe in January 2006 and was promoted to General Counsel for EMEA in October 2012. He is responsible for the legal, regulatory and compliance functions in the EMEA region, spanning 46 countries with products ranging from personal lines to the largest corporate risks. He is Company Secretary of AIG Europe Limited and is responsible for the company secretarial function and corporate governance and throughout the region. He is a member of the AIG EMEA Executive Committee and advises the Board of AIG Europe on legal, regulatory and compliance risks. Prior to joining AIG, Chris spent seven years in Norton Rose's Insurance Corporate Finance and Regulatory Team working on acquisitions, mergers and other regulatory projects within the insurance sector

Paul Moxey | Professor in Corporate Governance, London South Bank University

Prof Moxey is visiting professor of corporate governance at London South Bank University and has chaired the CRSA (Culture, Control and Risk Self-assessment) Forum since 2000. He lectures widely and provides executive education and consulting support on governance, risk management, business ethics and culture. A former financial controller, company secretary and management consultant, from 2001 to early 2015 he was Head of Corporate Governance and Risk Management at ACCA where he was involved in governance developments across the world including speaking at conferences and other events in five continents as well as a considerable amount of writing. His main interest is in the behavioural aspects of governance and risk and his last major project at ACCA was to lead an ESRC funded international research study of corporate culture and behaviour.

Sarah Nicholls leads JLL's Global Corporate Sustainability (GCS) team. JLL is a professional services firm specializing in real estate with over 60,000 employees. H.E. Amb. Dan Mulhall | Ambassador of Ireland of Great Britain

Born in Waterford, Ireland in April 1955, Daniel Mulhall joined the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland in 1978 and has held positions in the Department's Economic, Political, Development Cooperation and Press Sections. He has had diplomatic postings in New Delhi, Vienna, Brussels (EU), Edinburgh (Consul General of Ireland in Scotland). Between 2001 and 2005, he was Ireland's Ambassador to Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. In August 2005, he was appointed Director-General of the European Union Division at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin. Prior to his appointment in London he was Ireland's Ambassador in Berlin between 2009 and 2013. Among his interests are Irish history and literature, on which he has published many articles and a book, A New Day Dawning: a Portrait of Ireland in 1900 (Cork, 1999).

Professor Sir Andrew Likierman | Dean, London Business School(LBS), UK

Andrew was Founding Director of the Executive MBA programme and has been a Professor at the School for many years, lecturing on all the major executive and degree programmes. His research interests are in the field of the measurement of performance. Andrew's career has spanned work in the public and private sectors, as well as in professional life. Andrew has run a textile plant in Germany, been Head of the Government Accountancy Service and was a Managing Director of the UK Treasury. Previous non-executive posts include Chairman of the National Audit Office, of the Economists' Bookshop Group and of the market research firm MORI. He has also been a nonexecutive Director of the Bank of England, Barclays Bank Plc, and is a Past President of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. He is currently a non-executive director of the quoted insurance underwriter Beazley plc.

Melanie McLaren | Executive Director of Codes & Standards, Financial Reporting Council (FRC)

Melanie is the FRC Board member responsible for policy direction and implementation through the UK Corporate Governance and Stewardship Codes, financial reporting, audit and assurance and actuarial standards. Since joining the FRC in June 2012 Melanie has led implementation of the FRC's effective company stewardship agenda. Melanie has a background in professional and financial services and was a partner in PwC's financial services practice before leaving the firm in April 2009.Prior to joining the FRC Melanie was Chief Risk Officer at Friends Life, a major listed UK life assurer.

Joanna Bennett | Consultant, Futureye

Joanna has more than ten years' experience working as a communications specialist in the field of international affairs. Her work has focused particularly on the nexus of influence between the NGO community, national governments, international inter-governmental bodies and the private sector. Her most recent experience has focused particularly on sustainable development, including how the 2015 Global Goals can become embedded into business practice, as well as guiding the work of the NGO sector. Joanna has a strong background in Commonwealth affairs. She now acts as a UK consultant for Futureye, an international management consulting firm specialising in social licence to operate and for Civicus, a global civil society network headquartered in Johannesburg.

Dhian Ubhi | Chief Executive, Reliability Networking Ltd., UK

Mr. Dhian Ubhi is the Chief Executive of Reliability Networking Limited, trading as “Rel-Net”, in May 2002 as a consulting company specializing in IT Solutions, Reliability & Security Management and Training. He worked for BT as a Reliability Manager and Senior Consultant for 35 years. He was instrumental in the development of the BT Handbook of Reliability Data (HRD). He developed a comprehensive programme of Reliability Training and produced a number of Reliability & Risk Analysis Models. He is a member of IEEE and ASQ (American Society for Quality).

Chair Rt. Hon. Andrew Mitchell MP | Member of Parliament for the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield

Mr. Andrew Mitchell has been MP for Sutton Coldfield since 2001. He also served as a Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party from 1992 to 1993. In November 2003 he was appointed Shadow Minister for Economic Affairs and subsequently Shadow Minister for Home Affairs. He was a member of the Cabinet from 2010 to 2012 as Secretary of State for International Development and Chief Whip.He is currently campaigning on a number of important local issues in Sutton Coldfield and very active in addressing issues of local development. He has also been focusing on campaigns to regenerate Sutton's Town Centre and to restore its historic status as a Royal Town.

Panelist Prof. David Bailey | Aston University Economic Restructuring and Industrial Policy

David Bailey is Professor of Industrial Strategy at the Aston Business School. He has written extensively on industrial and regional policy, especially in relation to manufacturing and the auto industry. His recent research has been funded by a number of state and private organisations including the ESRC. He recently undertook an EU funded project on the role of FDI in cluster upgrading, and is an Area Coordinator (on industrial policy) for the FP7 project WWW for Europe (Welfare, Wealth, Work). He is a regular newspaper columnist and media commentator. He was Chair of the Regional Studies Association over 2006-12 and is now an Honorary Vice-Chair, and an editor of the journals Regional Studies, Policy Studies, and the Journal of Industry, Competition and Trade.

Ben Digby | Head of Group, International (Regional Lead Middle East & Africa) at CBI (Confederation of British Industry)

Mr. Digby is the Head of Group, International (Regional Lead Middle East & Africa). He is responsible for the CBI's lobbying on trade and investment issues, with a particular focus on the Middle East and Africa. He joined the CBI in 2008 and has led lobbying campaigns on a range of issues including executive pay, immigration and employment relations, in the UK and Brussels. Prior to the CBI, he worked for a year for political consultancy DeHavilland. He has degrees in Political Theory (MSc) from the London School of Economics and Political Science and Politics and Economics (BA Hons) from Durham University.

Saqib Bhatti | President, The Asian Chamber of Commerce (affiliated with the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce)

Mr. Saqib Bhatti is President of the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce and by profession, a chartered accountant based in Birmingham. He is a Director at Younis Bhatti & Co Limited Chartered Accountants and an associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He is currently a director of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP with responsibilities for promoting diversity and business support. The GBS LEP is one of the most senior strategic boards in the region, tasked by the government to promote economic growth across the Greater Solihull and Birmingham Area.

Prof. Pawan Budhwar | Director, Aston India Foundation, Aston Business School

Dr Pawan Budhwar is Professor of International Human Resource Management at Aston Business School. He is the Co-Director of Aston India Foundation for Applied Research. He has authored/edited 14 books and over 100 research papers in international refereed journals. He has been for the last couple decades in the areas of Strategic HRM, International HRM, Expatriate Management and employment relationship in emerging markets (with an emphasis on India). He is the Editor-in-Chief of British Journal of Management. He is the Co-Founder and First Past President of Indian Academy of Management. He is a Fellow of the British Academy of Management, Higher Education Academy and the Academy of Social Sciences.
